Four Ways to Plug Into Perth's Innovation Scene This March
If you've been wondering how to get more involved in Perth's growing innovation and startup ecosystem, March 2026 is your month.
Whether you're into healthtech, deep tech, entrepreneurship, or you're still figuring out what you're into — there's something happening right now that could change the trajectory of your career (or your life).
Here are four opportunities worth knowing about.

1. Perth Biodesign 2026 Flagship Program — Applications Open
If you're interested in healthcare innovation, this is the gold standard.
Perth Biodesign is a seven-month, part-time program based on the Stanford Biodesign methodology. Teams of engineers, clinicians, researchers, and business professionals work together to identify unmet clinical needs and create real medical technology or digital health solutions.
This isn't a theoretical exercise. Perth Biodesign alumni have gone on to launch companies, raise millions in funding, and create products that are genuinely changing patient outcomes. VitalTrace, a recent graduate, was called "the biggest breakthrough in fetal monitoring in 50 years" by ABC. Another, Pretect Devices, secured $645k to commercialise continuous IV monitoring for critically ill babies.
Over 900 innovators have been trained through the program. You don't need prior healthcare experience to apply — they're actively seeking people with diverse perspectives and expertise.
Participants who complete all deliverables receive a $500 reimbursement, and scholarships are available.

2. Perth HackerHouse: Now Accepting Applications
This one's a bit different.
Arrayah is launching Perth's first hackerhouse, a 1 to 6-month live-in residency for founders, researchers, artists, and inventors.
The pitch is simple: "A home for the kind and ambitious." If you care deeply about your craft and want to be surrounded by others who do the same, this could be the environment that accelerates everything.
Spots rotate regularly, and applications are open now. If you've been looking for your people or a place to fully immerse yourself in building something, this might be it.
Cost: Starting $350/week (incl. bills)

3. Black Swan Summit Australia — 23-25 March @ UWA
The people building Australia's next economy — founders, researchers, policymakers, hiring managers — will be in one room for three days. And they want students there.
Black Swan Summit Australia is returning to Perth for its second edition, hosted at UWA's iconic Winthrop Hall. The summit brings together leaders in quantum computing, AI, tokenisation, green infrastructure, and critical tech, with a focus on Perth's role as a bridge to Indo-Pacific markets.
What's in it for students?
Meet people who are actually hiring — founders, researchers, recruiters in the room, not behind a LinkedIn screen
Real career pathways — internships, graduate roles, and project opportunities that start with a conversation
Sessions on the topics shaping your future — AI, quantum, data science, greentech, tokenisation, and the future of work
Potential to participate in panels and roundtables
The summit features stages, public-private roundtables under Chatham House rules, innovation tours, workshops, and boardroom discussions, all delivered over three days.
Student passes: We're giving away 15 complimentary passes on a first-come, first-served basis. Once claimed, student passes are just $10 each.
