What if you could travel overseas, learn from global leaders in your field, and bring those insights back to make a real difference in Australia?
That's exactly what the Churchill Fellowship offers — and it's one of Australia's most valuable (and underrated) opportunities for anyone looking to grow their expertise, expand their network, and create impact.
The 2026 Churchill Fellowship Info Sessions are now open for registration, and we wanted to share this opportunity with our community.
What is the Churchill Fellowship?
The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust was established in 1965, following the death of Sir Winston Churchill. Rather than building statues or monuments, the Trust was created to honour his legacy in a more powerful way: by funding Australians to travel the world, explore best practice, and bring new knowledge back to their communities.
Since then, over 4,500 Churchill Fellowships have been awarded to Australians from all walks of life — teachers, farmers, nurses, artists, scientists, tradespeople, entrepreneurs, and everything in between.
The Fellowship provides funding and support for Australians to travel overseas (typically 4-8 weeks) to investigate a topic they're passionate about. The only requirement? You need to bring what you learn back to Australia and share it with others.
Who Can Apply?
Here's the best part: there are no prescribed qualifications.
You don't need a degree. You don't need to be an academic. You don't need to be at a certain stage in your career. The Fellowship is open to:
Australian citizens and permanent residents
People from all industries, backgrounds, and locations
Anyone with a genuine passion and a project that will benefit Australia
What they're looking for is curiosity, commitment, and a clear vision for how your learning will create positive change.
Why Should You Consider It?
Funded travel: The Fellowship covers your overseas research program
Global learning: Access experts, institutions, and practices you couldn't reach otherwise
Credibility: Becoming a Churchill Fellow is a recognised mark of excellence
Network: Join a community of 4,500+ Fellows across Australia
Impact: Bring real change to your industry, community, or field
83% of Churchill Fellows achieve their program goals within five years of returning. This isn't just a travel grant — it's a launchpad for real impact.
