Velora Health

Turning breastmilk intake into measurable science.

About

Velora Health was founded to solve one of the most overlooked gaps in maternal and infant care — the inability to measure how much milk a baby actually receives during breastfeeding. Developed through the Perth Biodesign programme, Velora received a $50,000 WA Innovation Booster Grant in 2025 to progress the technology from concept to early prototype, alongside a further $5,000 through Biodesign Next to advance prototyping and IP development.

Co-Founder: Sian Reed

Sian is a registered psychologist and entrepreneur with a background spanning marketing, research, psychology, human resources, and business innovation. A past winner of the Curtin Ignition Program and 2018 Business News 40 Under 40 nominee, her ventures have been featured in the Australian Financial Review, The West Australian, and the Australian Financial Review. She brings a rare combination of clinical expertise, lived experience as a mother, and strong relationships with paediatricians across Perth — making her uniquely placed to bridge consumer-led innovation with clinical insight. Having lived in China, England, Sweden, and Singapore, Sian approaches health innovation with a genuinely global perspective.

The Problem They're Solving

Breastfeeding is one of the most complex biological processes we know — yet it has never been measurable in real time. The absence of objective intake data leads to parental anxiety, delayed identification of underfeeding, unnecessary supplementation, preventable growth faltering, and avoidable clinical escalation. Velora exists to close that gap.

What They Do

  • Real-time intake measurement — wearable, non-invasive technology that accurately measures breastmilk intake during natural feeding

  • Objective data for parents — replacing guesswork and indirect signs with clear, reliable information

  • Clinical decision support — giving health professionals the evidence base to identify feeding issues early and intervene with confidence

  • Early-life outcomes — supporting better infant health through data-driven breastfeeding care
