Omni Biotech | Lead Software Engineer

Build world-first health and sports-tech @ VC-Backed Startup (Full-Stack Developer, AWS + Mobile)

🧪 About Omni

Omni is a VC, Olympian and NBA athlete-backed Australian startup developing novel health metrics that unlock the full potential of existing wearables.

Stepping outside of basic step counters and sleep trackers found on over 500M wearables, Omni creates actionable health metrics to help:

  • everyday people make more informed health decisions and proactively manage their health.

  • athletes and coaches gain deeper insight into performance and recovery.

  • emergency services and heavy industry teams operate safely in extreme environments.

Starting with what we believe is the missing vital sign, hydration.

Over 70% of the US population spend their entire day dehydrated—equivalent to the cognitive impairment of a 0.08 BAC. A state at which productivity is down 20-30%, you’re 5x more likely to crash your car and 40% more likely to develop chronic disease.

You’d be getting in on the ground floor and have a real impact, working with a small (and growing) team who has built a validated solution that’s in market and preparing to scale globally.

🛠️ The Role

Omni is looking for an ambitious Software Engineer to play an integral role in building and scaling our wearable health analytics platform for applications spanning elite sport, to heavy industry and healthcare.

This is a lead role, which spans the entire stack, from cloud backend, mobile SDK integration layer, and everything in between. It leans slightly backend-heavy (AWS predominantly), but the perfect candidate will be confident contributing to mobile (Flutter + native Kotlin/Swift).

We're open to senior engineers—or hungry emerging talent who learn fast and want real ownership.

Expect to be presented with new challenges every day, as we respond to user feedback, ship new features into new markets, use new tools we haven’t been exposed to and solve technical problems out of our comfort zone.

🔧 What You’ll Do

  • Build and evolve our AWS infrastructure (Amplify, Lambda, SQS, Postgres, Timestream, etc.).

  • Iterate on our mobile app (Currently Flutter)

  • Support native (Kotlin/Swift) integrations with Bluetooth wearable SDKs for real-time sensor data ingestion.

  • Optimize performance & scalability of our mobile application & cloud infrastructure

  • Collaborate closely with founders, data science team and clients to problem solve, design, debug, and ship features quickly.

  • Contribute to the entire product lifecycle, from design and implementation, to testing, deployment and updates.

Note: If some of this is new to you, that’s OK! We believe that great developers are problem solvers first and can pick up new technologies quickly.

🎯 What You’ll Need

Must-haves (or a willingness to figure it out fast):

  • 2+ years experience in a software engineering related role

  • Experience designing and implementing cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and event-driven systems (SQS, Lambda).

  • Comfort working across the stack: mobile (Flutter/native) + backend.

  • Experience working with development tools & concepts such as Git, CI/CD pipelines, deployment tooling and automating testing.

  • You consider yourself a fast learner and elite problem solver who’s ready to get their hands dirty and dive into unfamiliar tools, tech, or problems.

  • Excited to work in an agile, startup environment where adaptability and ownership are required.

💡 You’ll Stand Out If

  • You’ve worked with wearables, health apps, real-time data pipelines and/or embedded systems integration (BLE).

  • You’ve built and deployed production apps via App Store / Play Console.

  • You use tools such as Terraform, Fastlane and GitHub Actions

  • You’ve built for high-stakes enterprise environments: elite sport, or emergency services.

  • You’re a strong generalist who can float between backend and mobile with ease.

  • You leverage AI tools to accelerate your workflow

💙 You’ll Love This Role If...

  • 🏋️ You’re into elite sport, biohacking, wearables, or tracking your own health data

  • 🧠 You obsess over performance—whether it's physical, mental, or system design

  • 🚀 You’ve built side projects, launched your own startup, or gone through programs like Startmate, YC, or BioDesign

  • 🛠️ You enjoy getting your hands dirty, solving hairy problems, and jumping into parts of the stack you’ve never touched before.

  • 🧭 You want to shape a product, grow a team, and leave a mark—not just ship tickets

  • ⚙️ Are tired of being just another cog at a big company—you want ownership, impact, and equity in something real.

  • 🤝 Prefer to run/own your own projects, rather than have a product manager tell you which tickets are due

🏻🏡 What’s In It For You

  • Early equity in a VC-funded startup in addition salary.

  • Flexible work environment (Perth is preferred for the near-term, but we’re open to hybrid/remote for the right person).

  • Modern office with end of trip facilities located in the Perth CBD

  • A chance to work directly with founders and a data science team on world-first health-tech.

  • Full ownership across the stack, with a clear path to grow into a leadership role.

  • Work on complex problems with real-world impact—already trusted by users across elite sports, remote heavy industry, and beyond.

  • Autonomy on how to work, and which tools work best for you

  • Ongoing opportunity to grow, build and lead an engineering team
